Photo Etching
For photo-etched, the color pigments used are same as the one in soft enamel, unlike soft enamel, an image of design is transferred from a photographic negative onto surface of the metal. You design is then etched into the brass using an acid-reaction process. Each recessed area is hand-filled with radiant soft enamel and baked to harden, and cut out the desired shape after baked. We could add epoxy layer for further protect. Silk screen process maybe added to enhance small details. The regular thickness for photo etched pins is 0.8mm and usually to epoxy dome on the surface to protect the enamel colors.

Transferring >An exact image of the design, photo or artwork is transferred from a photographic onto the metal surface by special process. Etching >Your design is etched into brass using an acid etching process
Rinsing >Acid and impurities are rinsing out.
Coloring >The design area is carefully hand-filled with soft enamel, one color at a time with different size syringes and mounted to dry.
Baking >Pins are baked at 450 degree F for 12-15 minutes.
Stoning >After the metal board is cool, each is scrubbed with a carborundum stone until all excess color is removed.
Outline Cutting >The metal board is cut with pins in rows, then the individual pins are cut separately.
Attachment >Attachment is welded on to the back of each piece. Plating >Now plating can be processed with various plating.
Epoxy Coating >A clear protective epoxy coating (epoxy dome) can then be applied to the surface of your pins to protect the image from fading or peeling off or getting scratched.
Final inspection >Then each pin is inspected to ensure only the highest quality is individually packaged and send for final inspection.
Photo Etched Lapel Pins allows for more detailed designs and a wider choice of colors, finely detailed reproduction and economical pricing. This method is cost effective for promotional pins, team trading pins or where cost is an issue.
